logo-shiatsuBryan Boulter Dip. BSS, began his studies in 1998 and holds a Diploma awarded by the British School of Shiatsu-Do. The British School was founded in 1983 and is one of the longest established schools in the UK.

Bryan offers treatments either in the comfort of your own home or at his home in Elvington, near York.


What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is an ancient Japanese healing art, based like acupuncture on the Oriental Medicine Tradition dating back 5000 years.

Shiatsu is received through clothing and involves the practitioner applying stretches, some massage-like techniques and gentle but firm pressure to the acupressure points and meridian pathways to stimulate the body’s vital energy and activate and support the body’s natural healing system.

Shiatsu is safe, effective, enjoyable, deeply relaxing and often energising.

An experienced Shiatsu practitioner tunes in to what is trying to happen in the body’s natural healing process, and works to activate and support that process.

The result is a rebalancing of that natural energy, allowing deep healing on a physical, mental and emotional level.  Receiving Shiatsu puts us more in touch with our own body’s healing abilities and ourselves.


What does a session involve?

A session, usually lasting about one hour, comprises a consultation about your health, medical history and life style, followed by the actual treatment.

The Shiatsu treatment is given with the client lying or sitting on a comfortable futon mat on the floor.  The practitioner generally works on the whole body through clothing.

Where appropriate, based on the practitioner’s Oriental Medical Diagnosis, guidelines or recommendations may be offered for the client to improve their current health and support their own healing process.


How many sessions will I need?

T
he number of sessions will vary from person to person. Often, positive effects are felt after just one treatment. However, a series of treatments may be needed to make a significant change in a condition.

Most people begin coming every 2 or 3 weeks, progressing to monthly intervals to maintain a balance of health.

Guidelines for receiving Shiatsu

     Q Please bring or wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing, preferably
         cotton, e.g. sweatshirt, tracksuit trousers and cotton socks

         Q Do not eat heavily in the two hours prior to treatment

               Q Do not drink alcohol before or after treatment

                   Q After treatment, drink plenty of water to smooth the flow
                         of changes through the system

                         Q If at all possible, avoid strenuous or stressful activities
                             after your session
